Works Update 2006

Interior Refurbishment   Repainted and refurbished the interior including new forward cabin cushions and interior cabinets, further details and pictures here

For single and shorthanded sailing I like to have all aids to hand from the cockpit so I made this interior cabinet from two IKEA units and fibreglassed onto the starboard interior. Immediate to hand I now have:

  1. Fog Horn
  2. White Flare
  3. Hand bearing compass
  4. Knife
  5. Torch
  6. Night red maplight
  7. Binoculars
  8. Handheld VHF
  9. Mobile Phone
  10. Charts

Cockpit Floor   Refurbished cockpit floor and came up with a unique design to keep the water out ! further details and pictures here
Auto Bilge Pump Added auto bilge pump, further details and pictures here
Instrumentation  Added new NASA instruments, further details and pictures here
Rutland Wind Generator Added a Rutland 503 wind generator to the port rear pulpit, further details and pictures here
Lewmar Self Tailing winches Replaced the genoa sheet winches with new Lewmar ST16's, further details and pictures here
Boarding Ladder  Added a boarding ladder off the starboard stern which I picked up cheap at the London Boat show, primarily for safety reasons, pictures here

Hull Update

27th Nov

The hull is now finished having completed all the anti-fouling at the weekend.

More pictures here

21st Nov

Well the hull is all prepared now and ready for anti-fouling which I hope to do this weekend if it doesn't snow !

14th Nov

Peter asked for an update on the osmosis condition and treatment....Well after scraping and sanding the hull and only finding a couple of blisters (you can tell by the slimey liquid when they pop which is acetic acid) and leaving to dry for two weeks I had some moisture readings taken. They were excellent !!! In fact the guy commented that that he had seen a lot worse in boats only as quarter as old as mine. So forget the thoughts of any expensive £3000 gelcoat scraping and osmosis treatment. A good sanding and filling will do me fine, more details here.

Engine mounts

16th Feb

The engine has been repainted, anodes replaced, engine bearers were strengthened and reglassed, engine bay repainted with bilge paint and then the engine reinstalled. The original fuel hose from the injectors back to the fuel tank was cracked and replaced.

Finished

3rd Dec

Well the engine has been successfully lifted out and it's time to start on the engine beds, further details and pictures here.

21st Nov

Luckily managed to source some engine mount flanges from a chap breaking up a 2GM engine at a fractional cost, along with a cheap spare alternator. Arranged for the engine to be taken out on the 28th November.

13th Nov

Bad news on the engine mounts which I inspected closely yesterday while the cockpit floor was up. They are more badly corroded than I thought. In fact on the port side there is significant chunk of the engine mount and more alarmingly the engine attachment bracket rusted away. I phoned one the UK Yanmar suppliers today and got some quotes. The guy laughed when I said I was already sitting down as I knew the mounts were going to be expensive. But then in background I could here him having a conversation on the cost of the attaching bracket.... "£113 each, no that must be for a set, are you sure ? REALLY !" when he came back on the phone even he had to recommend that it would be cheaper to fabricate my own. Anyway I've arranged to meet up with the local marine engineer to get a quote for the work on Tuesday.
